UK Veterans Hearing Foundation at Armed Forces Day 2024

UKVHF Team at Armed Forces Day 2024

On June 29th, 2024, the UK Veterans Hearing Foundation proudly participated in the Armed Forces Day event at Argents Mead, Hinckley. The event provided an excellent platform for raising awareness about the support our charity offers to veterans suffering from hearing loss and associated tinnitus.

About Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday of each June, and this year it was celebrated on June 29th. This special day is dedicated to showing support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community. This includes currently serving personnel, their families, veterans, and cadets.

It marks the culmination of a week-long series of celebrations that begin on 24th June and include Reserves Day on 26th June, which recognises the contributions of Reserve Forces. Throughout the week, communities and organisations across the country participate in various activities to honour and appreciate our Armed Forces. By doing this, they provide a much-needed morale boost to service members and their families.

The UK Veterans Hearing Foundation is proud to be part of this national effort to recognise and support our Armed Forces.

Event Highlights

Our new equipment, funded by a generous grant donated to our charity, made its debut at this event. The items included a specially designed gazebo, stick and feather flags, posters, leaflets, stickers, pens, awareness cards, UKVHF branded tops, card machines, charity tins, chairs, and storage boxes. These resources significantly enhanced our presence and engagement at the event.

The day commenced with a service led by Reverend Ian Hill of St. Mary’s Church. This was accompanied by the melodic tunes of Peter Harris on the keyboard and buglers Jeff Holder and Jamie Hunt. The parade, entering the Mead from Castle Street, was a sight to behold, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd. The salute was led by Col Richard Hurwood DL, who represented Mr. Michael Kapur OBE CStJ, Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire.

Engaging Activities

Our team, dressed in UKVHF branded tops, engaged with the community through various activities:

  • Raffle Tickets: Attracted many participants eager to support our cause.
  • Selling Donations and Sweet Cones: These efforts not only provided delicious treats but also helped raise funds.
  • Charity Tins and Handouts: We distributed cards, leaflets, flags, and pens to spread awareness about our mission.

The excitement was palpable, particularly around the display of military vehicles and memorabilia, thanks to the Charnwood MVT (Military Vehicle Trust) volunteers. These displays were a major attraction. They fostered a deeper connection between the attendees and the rich history of our armed forces.

Fundraising Success

In just four hours, we successfully raised over £160 for our veterans! This event marked the beginning of many more to come. We will continue to utilise our new equipment to support our fundraising efforts and spread awareness about the challenges faced by veterans with hearing loss.
