Armed Forces Day Saturday 26

This coming Saturday, Armed Forces Day will kick off in Hinckley’s Argents Mead Park at 10am.
John Parnell will be on Castle Street from 10-10.45 am and 12-2 pm in his flying jacket, helmet and goggles while on stilts as his alter-ego ‘Biggles’ for some fun family entertainment. Meanwhile, the service segment will open at 11 am with a welcome from Revered Gary Weston, followed by an opening hymn and further introductions by Mayor Ted Hollick. Shortly thereafter will be the inaugural prayer then an address from Revered and Mayor’s Chaplain Noel Colley. Prayers, hymns and an epitaph will then make up the remainder of the service, with a final last post and reveille then a rendition of the national anthem. The main event, the parade, will arrive in Argents Mead before the service and continue down to Church Walk before saluting the main base on Station Road. This year’s event will feature an exciting range of vintage military vehicles and memorabilia including:
  • 1945 Willys Jeep
  • 90 Military Land Rover
  • 10 Military Land Rover hearse
  • 1974 Land Rover series 3 lightweight FFR plus Sankey trailer
  • 1974 Renault Saviem TP3 troop carrier
  • 1980 2 x Can-am Bombardier 250cc Motorcycle
  • 1984 Armstrong MT500
  • 1992 Harley Davidson MT350
  • 1973 Simson S50 (unique US signals regalia)

Do note that the event(s) will be subject to COVID-19 guidelines, including social distancing and mask wearing. Toilet facilities and hand-sanitising stations will be provided throughout. The parade will, however, undergo a reduced length to ensure the safety of all who attend. All in all, it’s looking to be a fantastic day out!
